Living & Family Rooms

The rooms where you actually live deserve proper attention. We open floor plans, refresh fireplaces, rework lighting and rebuild connections between spaces so they feel composed, not stale.

Living and family spaces often hold the worst of a home's history — dated fireplaces, awkward layout, poor light for the way families gather now.

We take an architectural view of these rooms: sight lines to the lake or garden, flow to the kitchen, fireplace presence, and layered lighting for evening life. The result is the room the house always wanted to be.

Most of these rooms are not badly built — they are badly arranged. A wall that divided the space once for a reason no longer applies, or a room that faces away from the best view, is a planning problem, and solving it is a matter of opening the plan up and reconnecting what got separated over the years.

Light does most of the emotional work in a gathering room. A single bright overhead fitting can make a space feel institutional, so a well-planned one uses layers — general, task and accent — that let the room be dimmed and warmed for an evening without leaving anyone in the dark.

Where we work

Living and family room renovations in Kelowna and the Okanagan

Many living rooms and family rooms are laid out around how families lived in an earlier era, and the light and views a home already has can end up doing little for it. Reconnecting a room to both is often a large part of the work.
